Presbyterian Woman at Bethany
The Bethany Women of the Church, established in 1928 as the Women’s Auxiliary, have been very active in the life of the church over the years. At one time there were at least four circles that met monthly during the day or at night. Money collected from circle dues was used to finance the many mission projects that they supported such as Meals on Wheels, Residential Treatment Services, Elder Care, The Men’s Rescue Mission and drugs for the elderly at Tar Heel Drug to name a few.
The WOC hosted some of the best family night suppers that you could imagine. Chicken pies and desserts were two of their specialties. Their cooking was so delicious that they actually put together three amazing cookbooks over the years. For many years WOC supported and assisted some of the Men of the Church events as well.
In recent years we had a morning and an evening circle. They remained active before COVID and together held an annual yard sale fundraiser. The proceeds funded the many local missions that we supported. In addition to our regular missions the women have helped many local families due to sickness, fires, homelessness, etc. In addition they have provided meals for church members’ families after funerals and together with the Men of the Church supported many projects around the church especially landscaping and seasonal wreaths for all the outside doors.
Hopefully, the women of the church can get their morning and night circles going or possibly join together in a monthly gathering.
